Does anyone know where I can buy fabric scraps for quilt-making?
I used to be able to purchase 17 lbs. of dress cotton for about $6.00, this was about 25 yrs. ago, from a dress factory that sold scraps of cotton for quilting. I live in Pa., would someone know where in Pa. I might be able to find a dress or shirt factory? Thank you.

- find an upholsterer in your area, they have loads of spare material
- Try going to your local Goodwill, Salvation Army, or local thrift store. There are lots of thing they throw away or can't sell for some reason. I'm sure they would just give them to you for free. Best days to go are Mondays or after holiday weekends. Good luck
- Head to your nearest fabric store & ask them for the scraps & remnants. Some will bag them up for you too. My aunt quilts & knows the lady at JoAnn's well. She gets a big bag a week for like $3-$5, depending on the size. If there's no fabric store, you can always ask Wal-Mart for scraps too.
- I get most of my remnants from Joann's too - you can generally get great fabric for much cheaper. A great place to buy a bunch of scraps from, though, is ebay. There are tons of sellers who will just stuff a Priority mail package with fabric for a low fee, and if all you wanted was cotton, you would get a great deal. I get all of my lot fabrics from ebay, usually the sellers are dressmakers themselves and will have things like lined satin, chenille, flannel, organza, silk taffeta, etc. tossed into the mix. Check out ebay!
