Question about a rag quilt/embroidery.....?
Hi. I am planning to make a rag quilt using this pattern and instructions: http://www.yorkstreetquiltingco.com/free_pattern.htm Instead of doing a star applique, I want to embroider. I want to know how I can still sandwich it all together if I embroider. Can I still sew an "X" like the other pieces? Or do I need to do it differently? Please reply ASAP... Thanks!

- I beleive if you do some embroidery the denim quilt will assemnle the same way as all seams are to the right side for a great fray effect. However with the topstitching of the "x" as you quilt the fabric could be a proble. The tight embroidery stitches of your design may be too much if you are machine quilting. Consider tieing the quilt for the fastest easiest method or machine stitch an outline around each embroidered shape, like a heart shape around the design you stitich. and a heart shape in each blank square.
- I would embroider the blocks first, then sandwich them and stitch an X on the blank pieces, and an O on the embroidered pieces, with the embroidery in the center of the O. That way it looks planned, and the quilting doesn't interfere with your embroidery. An X right through your embroidery would spoil the effect.
