How to make a quilt out of denim?

I have the denim and found a pattern....it says to sew flannel in between and I'm not sure how I'm going to sew the flannel and sew the blanket together...I've never made a quilt before and some site to figure out how to make a quilt would help.... Can you help me? If so please do...don't answer unless you know

1. If you've never done this before denim is tougher to work with than more usual material like cotton. Are you planning on doing it by hand or machine? You should probably first check out the basics in a library book or website like the link below to decide how you're going to do it.
