  1. You can do what I did and enter "free quilt patterns" into your browser. There are quite a few quilt pattern companies that offer a few free patterns to anyone who wants them. If you put in a little effort you might get quite a collection. There is also "FreePatterns.com" that offers loads of free patterns. I haven't tried them yet so I don't know what they offer. Try them too.
  2. about.com, debbiemum.com, and tons of others.
  3. Just Google free quilt patterns and a lot of web sites pop up. You will be at your pc all day
  4. The problem with just searching for "free quilt patterns" is that you'll get a lot of sites that are full of advertising, and not always the greatest quality instructions. You'll waste a lot of time sifting through the garbage to fine the gems. The best place to find free instructions for quilt blocks - without a lot of ads - is Quilter's Cache. She has over 1300 different blocks, some traditional, some original. They are pieced, appliqued, and paper pieced. She also has instructions for different techniques, quilt sizes, and all sorts of other stuff. The instructions are for a single block, not an entire quilt, so you have to figure out yardages yourself. Each block includes illustrated instructions, an illustration of what the completed quilt might look like (great for blocks that make secondary patterns when put together), and at least one photo of a finished block. For full quilt patterns, go to the fabric manufacturers websites, and some of the magazines. They have dozens, even hundreds of quilt patterns without any ads, because they're trying to sell you the fabric or the magazine. Try some of the links below.
  5. swbiblio has give you an excellent answer. I also recommend www.quilterscache.com. 6. If you are looking for" Free Patterns", you will want to type in -- Public Domain Quilt Patterns" these are the patterns that will be truly free patterns. Most of the patterns on any sites today are or have been designed in the last 20-30 years unless they state they are public domain quilt patterns. Also use your local library and do some research there looking for books which contain public domain quilt patterns.
